David Crawford, M.D., is a renowned physician and researcher who has dedicated his 45-year career to men’s health issues with a specialized focus on prostate cancer, the most common malignancy affecting men in the United States.
Holding esteemed positions such as Professor of Urology at the University of California San Diego and Emeritus Distinguished Endowed Professor of Surgery, Urology, and Radiation Oncology at the University of Colorado, Dr. Crawford also is the Jack A. Vickers Director of Prostate Research and the founder of PCMarkers.com.
Recognized as one of the country’s top urologists, Dr. Crawford has been named to the Best Doctors of America list every year since 2009, and in May 2019, he received the Presidential citation from the American Urological Association for his “tireless role in genitourinary cancer research.”

Over his career, he has received more than 95 research grants, primarily focusing on advancing the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer, benign prostatic hyperplasia, and other areas of urological infection and malignancies.
Dr. Crawford’s prolific academic contributions include authoring or coauthoring more than 810 scientific articles, publishing seven textbooks, contributing to more than 60 book chapters and giving more than 2,200 educational talks. He also serves as editor-in-chief for Grand Rounds in Urology.
In his leadership roles, Dr. Crawford served as the chairman of the Genitourinary Cancer Committee, the largest clinical trials group in the world, for 27 years. He also serves or has served as an active member in the following organizations:

A passionate educator and advocate, Dr. Crawford chairs the Prostate Conditions Education Council, an organization he founded in 1989. This nonprofit is comprised of a consortium of leading physicians, health educators, scientists, and men’s health advocates, and has significantly impacted the lives of millions of American men through advocacy for free or low-cost prostate screening.
A graduate of the University of Cincinnati’s College of Medicine, Dr. Crawford has dedicated his career to both medical practice and academic research, fundamentally shaping the national and international discourse on men’s health and urologic cancers.
